Hear me out

I have been trying to work with my voice for so long now. (check out previous blog post here)

I kept coming up against a resistance, no matter what I tried - primal screaming/humming/sounding whether with people or solo. I literally could hear the sound being strangled out of me when I chanted or sang. The physical contraction was so real. And so constant.

And the practice became exactly that - a practice.

As I got deeper into the world of sound through my trainings and reading I knew that ‘your own voice is the most healing tool”. And here I was unable to access that. Frustration grew and grew.

And the practice continued.

I was calling out for a fix. Except the call was silent…. as was my singing voice.

January 2022 - enter Sarah Devereux, who I had been seeing for energy work and massage for a few months… and seemingly she heard my silent call.

The offer was made to me to work with her to “unleash my roar” (at that point I had only a feeble “mew”) and I knew I had to accept it.

Four sessions. Just 4 sessions is all it took.

For me to release my voice.

To get comfortable with it.

To sound (and even sing) to somebody with my eyes closed.

To open my eyes and do the same.

To be seen AND heard.

I could try to explain what went on in these sessions, but the words do not do the experience justice (I’ve been sweating over this blog post for a year now - no lie). The way Sarah worked her own sound around me so was nothing short of magic, the space she held allowing my own to develop and grow into itself.

Sarah herself describes it all as holistic voice coaching, a blend of intuitive energy healing and vocal techniques.

What I really want to share with you is my voice, which I now do in sound sessions. I’ve even caught myself singing replies back to people in conversation (never did that before) along to songs when shaking the dust (never ever would I sing in front of people).

Am I a singer now? Hell no. But I love to use sound in my sessions. Sounding over singing - totally different fish.

What is magic about voice work?

Coming and finding my own voice has been like finding the missing link for me.

Sometimes emotions do not complete within the body and energy stays within - remember that energy cannot be created or destroyed, only transduced.

For years, my movement and my rest practices have been intuitive and allowed energies to move through on a physical motion basis… but something was missing. This I feel was it.

Allowing sound to move through was what my cells needed.

You ready to unleash your voice - you are always welcome to in practice with me.
